C BLOCK
“THE SMALLEST BLOCK WITH THE LARGEST MARKET”
By: Ms. Milly Murgai, Resident C-6/6
Most Vasant Vihar residents visit the C Block market at least once a week. After all, it is the largest market in this colony, with some of the best and most popular shops! Our block is the smallest in Vasant Vihar – we officially have only 10 streets and some parts of Palam Marg and Paschimi Marg.
But, our market is always full of people, and it has become a focal point of Vasant Vihar. It is crowded (and frankly not very clean!!!). From flower shops, to Bread n More (great bakery items and a lovely place to have coffee), Pal Store & Raj King Mart (anything and everything is available here), hardware stores, many chemists, two bookshops…to name just a few of the shops which grace our market.
There are also three schools in our block. The very popular: Tagore International School, the school for the mentally-challenged: Tamanna, and the Sarvodaya Primary School which also houses the offices of the Education Centre.
The block has only two parks within it, but right next door is a beautiful DDA park which is full of people and children. Garden gyms, lovely walks and grass all around make this a favourite rendezvous for people from next door colonies also.
As in the rest of Vasant Vihar, most single-story homes have been replaced by multi-storied blocks. The earlier camaraderie seems to be missing, but then that is the story all over the world. Our Block representatives – Nina Jain and Archna Khandelwal are very active and hands-on and are renowned for their quick responses to any queries and requests from residents.
Do come and visit us, a cup of coffee and a warm welcome are a part of our lineage!

Born and raised in the Middle East, educated in Europe, lived in North America, I am a hard-core banker by profession. I left the ‘banker’s life’ behind to return to India and join the ‘NGO world’ by taking over the work of my late parents. Presently super-involved in promoting extra-curricular activities in schools nationally through United Schools Organisation of India (usoindia.org), I strongly believe that the world is a global village, and we are all connected. My husband and I moved to Vasant Vihar in 2018 with my 2 teenage children and 2 lovely dogs.
