D BLOCK

“THE BLOCK WITH A BEAUTIFUL PARK”

By: Gen. Sadan Pradeep Murgai, Resident D-8/1

D Block, Vasant Vihar is a posh residential complex in Southwest Delhi. It is home to many foreign embassies.  D Block has 221 residential plots including 36 plots on the Paschimi Marg (House Nos 18 to 53) and 11 plots on Poorvi Marg (House Nos 28 to 38) with 8 streets, D-1 to D-8. D-6 and D-8 are the two longest streets which run parallel to the Poorvi Marg from one end of the D Block to the other end. Initially the plots were allotted to the government servants on lease, but with time majority of the plots have been converted into free hold and have exchanged its ownership either due to inheritance or resale of the plots.

D Block has its own local market which caters for most of the daily needs of the residents. The market has three popular saloons: Vanity, Looks and Magnifique, a departmental store: Foodland, Rainbow bakery, 6 banks and above all a terrace bar and restaurant – Pint Room.

D Block has several parks, the most popular is the one facing D-1, D-6, and D-7 streets. It has its own composting unit. It has the singular distinction of having won several annual flower show awards at the state level and from the Delhi government Horticulture Department. The park is maintained under public-private partnership and voluntary contribution made by the residents.

D Block is popular because of its proximity to the biodiversity park, free run dispensary Dukh Nivaran, Santan Dharm Mandir and not the least the hub centre of activity, Vasant Vihar Club.
