B BLOCK

“LOTS OF PARKS, AND NO MARKET”

By: Mr. Ambrish Srivastava, Resident B-1/29

Any visitor to Vasant Vihar is bound to notice that B Block is unique for a variety of subtle but significant reasons.  Nestled between C Block on the North, A Block on the South and E Block on the West and the Outer Ring Road on the East, for one, it is spared the presence of slum clusters on any of its sides.

Also, it is most accessible from Outer Ring Road whether coming from the airport or from IIT with two access points: Vasant Marg and Paschimi Marg opening onto the Outer Ring Road. Being one of the smaller blocks, B block is notable for the absence of an attached market. Some residents believe this is a boon as the block is spared many anti-social elements associated with eateries, pan shops etc.

If you were to try to locate any residence in B block, it is easy as the block is a compact formation with odd number streets running north-south and even number streets running east-west. Nestled in the middle is the large central park with four quadrants. A children’s section with swings, slides etc. flower beds and benches. Making it a delight for morning and evening walkers.

Due to its strategic position within Vasant Vihar, B block enjoys easy access to markets and utilities across the colony. The BSES facility in the block itself, makes it very convenient for residents to pay their electricity bill or lodge complaints. The MVV office in C block is within walking distance and the two main markets; A block and C block are just across the road. The club, community centre etc. too are not far, one can easily walk down to attend any programme there without having to drive.

Even the famous Malai Mandir is just across the main Ring Road.

Neelima Dang

I have lived in Vasant Vihar since 1983 and absolutely love my colony. After nearly 4 decades working at the Bank of India I now enjoy my post-retirement inning with morning walks with friends in the B Block Central Park, reading biographies or fiction and watching my favourite TV programs with the family. I was the treasurer of the B Block RWA for 3 years and am keen to extend my love of this colony by dedicating myself to even greater community service.

If you ever spot me in Vasant Vihar, it will either be walking my Dachshunds, on a run or sometimes even interacting with dogs on the streets of the colony. As an animal lover and behavioural specialist, I believe this enhances greater empathy, social skills and sense of community.
