You asked, we answered

VVWA stands for Vasant Vihar Welfare Association.  We are a duly elected body of resident members – men, women, young and old – with a common goal to serve our community.  All members of the VVWA are volunteers who involve themselves for the betterment of Vasant Vihar.

VVWA is the enabler and facilitator of all improvement activities undertaken by the civic authorities and its effective coordination and implementation in the colony. We liaise with the civic authorities – South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), Public Works Department (PWD), BSES, Delhi Jal Board (DJB), MVV – to solve common colony-related woes.

Each of the 6 blocks have 2 elected representatives who will be able to assist the residents with common colony-related issues they may be facing. We aim to create a harmonious relationship between all the residents. To know your block representative click here.

VVWA can help residents with issues that involve our colony or community.  For instance:

  • Non-functioning streetlights
  • Water shortage
  • Drain / sewer issues
  • Potholes on roads
  • Waste management
  • Cleanliness in the colony
  • Any other regular maintenance for the betterment of the colony

VVWA cannot help residents with the following:

  • Personal arguments or family-related disputes
  • Property disputes
  • Traffic diversion
  • Challenge any government orders
  • Get involved in any police-related matter

The VVWA is completely dependent on the civic authorities for all issues that the colony faces.  Some work may be delayed due to this which does not imply that the VVWA may not be acting.

Any resident can join the VVWA by filling out a form with an annual subscription of Rs. 2,000 per household per year.  The form is available in our offices at Kalyan Kendra, 9, Paschimi Marg.  Our office hours are 9.30 am – 5 p.m Monday to Friday. Payment can be made by cheque made to Vasant Vihar Welfare Association or via online transfer.  Instructions are:

VVWA aims to bring all residents together for the betterment of the colony. We wish to bring about a community feel for the residents and encourage a harmonious, neighbourly feel for all since several residents have been living in our beloved colony for decades.  Be it for a festive cause, a social cause, or a community cause, VVWA members shall always find the support they need by becoming a member.

Any community requires the participation from all members who are part of a unified vision for a better colony.  Hence it is important for all residents to become members of VVWA.

Any tenant can join the VVWA, with permission from their landlord.

The annual subscription of Rs. 2,000 per household per year.  The year runs from April 1 – March 31.

Looking after the welfare of any colony requires a great deal of involvement in terms of time and money. All issues need to be addressed by the civic authorities.  However, due to the size and population of Delhi, it may take a while for the colony-specific issue to be addressed.  The funds collected by VVWA from all members are used for those pressing issues – be it fumigation during dengue season, installing speed-breakers and concave mirrors to control traffic etc.  Such initiatives require financial outlay which the subscription fee permits the association to do.

Block RWA’s were established for block-specific welfare activities.  However, with the success of the centralized VVWA, block RWA’s are now defunct in many blocks.  VVWA has 2 block representatives that deal with the day-to-day maintenance of their block.

The society (Government Servant’s Co-Operative House Building Society Ltd.) was originally established as the landowners of the entire area of Vasant Vihar.  The main purpose of the society was to allot plots of land to the various owners and oversee that all rules and guidelines laid down by the government were adhered to.

The VVWA body was formed once all plots of land were allotted to their beneficial owners, and represented the interest of people of the people living in Vasant Vihar.  The main aim is to work towards the common welfare of all residents in our beloved Vasant Vihar.
